PART I - AGRICULTURE (RE)INSURANCE FOR UNDERWRITERS AND PRICING ACTUARIES
COURSE OVERVIEW

Agriculture (Re)insurance plays a crucial role in mitigating financial risks associated with unpredictable weather events, natural disasters, and market fluctuations that impact the agricultural sector. Underwriters assess the exposure of agricultural risks by analyzing factors such as crop types, geographic regions, historical loss data, and climate trends, while pricing actuaries develop models to accurately price policies and reinsurance treaties.

Advances in satellite imaging, weather analytics, and parametric insurance solutions have enhanced risk assessment and pricing accuracy. In this first part of the agriculture insurance webinar series, we will cover the fundamentals of agriculture insurance and reinsurance within an international context and discuss traditional and parametric insurance while introducing pricing concepts.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

By the end of this webinar, the participant should be able to:

• Examine the major crops produced, types of agriculture, and the associated weather risks, with a particular emphasis to Africa.
• Discuss the basics of crop insurance and reinsurance and key concepts for underwriters and pricing actuaries.
• Analyze how agriculture risks can be mitigated through primary insurance and reinsurance structures.
